Southerland Accepts Debate Invite, Urges Lawson to Do the Same

On Friday’s Derrell Day Show on Talk 101 in Panama City, Derrell encouraged Steve and Senator Al Lawson to come on his program to debate the issues face-to-face. Steve accepted the invitation that same morning and encouraged Lawson to follow suit. Here’s Steve’s response to Derrell:

“Over the past 10 days, I have had the pleasure of visiting with hundreds of constituents at candidate forums across the district. Unfortunately, Senator Lawson chose not to attend any of the six forums, disappearing at a time when voters need to hear from us most. This is a pivotal election year and we owe it to the people to face the tough questions and share our competing visions for America. That’s why I’d be happy to accept an invitation to debate the issues on your program, and I’d hope Senator Lawson would do the same.”

PANAMA CITY - Rep. Steve Southerland was honored today to receive the endorsement of the Bays Medical Society in his re-election campaign for Florida’s Second Congressional. District. Southerland was joined by 40 doctors, physician assistants, and other health care professionals for a press conference on the grounds of Gulf Coast Facial Plastics in Panama City.

“I am honored to have the support of some of the best and brightest health care professionals serving our community,” Southerland said. “It is a tragedy when physicians are being forced to give up a profession they love because of Washington’s crippling regulatory burden. That’s why I have fought from Day One in Congress to put patients and their doctors first in health care.”

National Seniors Group Present Award to Congressman Steve Southerland

Panama City, FL – Today U.S. Representative Steve Southerland (R-FL) was honored to receive The 60 Plus Association’s Guardian of Seniors Rights Award. The award was presented by Chairman Jim Martin and is given to candidates and elected officials based on their ‘senior friendly’ voting record or statements.

“I ran for Congress with a pledge to fight for our seniors and protect Medicare. I am proud to have kept that promise by voting to restore $716 billion in Medicare funding that was cut under ObamaCare and opposing a debt limit deal that cut nearly $150 billion more. That said, there is much work remaining, and I appreciate having the support of 60 Plus as we continue to address the challenges facing Florida’s seniors,” said Representative Southerland.

The award was presented at St. Andrew Bay Towers in Panama City with residents present. The stop in Panama City is part of the second leg of its national Healthcare Freedom Bus tour that will visit over 10 states in the south and Midwest. The 60 Plus Association is the nation’s largest conservative seniors organization with over 7.2 million senior supporters.

Panama City, FL – NFIB announced today that its political action committee, the SAFE (Save America’s Free Enterprise) Trust, has endorsed U.S. Representative Steve Southerland (R-FL) for Florida’s Second Congressional District.
